I’m a lot like my parents. It’s hard to believe for me too. My mom, a dietician, made home cooked meals every night from scratch. She would spend hours cutting green beans, making perfect flat breads, and pressure cooking lentils in our tiny New Jersey kitchen. She showed me what good food was. My dad is an entrepreneur. He’s started several businesses, left his job to pursue his company full time, and has laid the foundation for success and growth for our family. Pretty dope role models, if you ask me.

Food has been an obsession my entire life. I’ve wanted to be a chef since I was a kid, and would watch hours upon hours of cooking shows (#gordon) to learn the basics and the lingo. It took me until college to realize that I could pursue a food career, and do it on my own terms. Sorry parents! My first job in school was an intern chef.I was alone in a kitchen after class, prepping food for 25 people, with only 60 bucks to spend. Every Thursday night, the dinner was held, and I would rush from to class to finish prep. It would take me all Wednesday night, and even into the next morning, to finish up. But I loved it. A couple years later, after meeting Ryn (dictionary: Kathryn), taking some entrepreneurship classes, and questioning why I went into design (again, sorry parents) we came up with Roux. It was a platform to combine cooking, fabrication, Adobe programs, and a 5 year education into one.

So while it hasn’t been a piece of locally sourced, artisanal cake, it has been a fun journey. And I’m hungry just thinking about the future. Aww.
